Preloved Books

It's no secret that I love books and reading. I have a whole wardrobe full of unread books and a kindle of books which I am also still yet to read. I guess you could say my reading obsession is just as bad as my beauty obsession! Whilst at a local village summer fayre this weekend they had a huge book sale where you could buy any of the books for 50p each or three books for £1! So after a good old rummage, and Tyler becoming increasingly impatient I finally stumbled on these six books and took them home with me to be loved further.

Firstly, I found the Lauren Conrad L.A series. I've been wanting to read these for ages but still couldn't justify around £6 a book for some trashy chick-lit, so £1 for all 3 was a bargain! Secondly, I found two Maeve Binchy books together, that I am yet to read. Maeve Binchy is my all-time favourite author and my aim is to one day have read all of her books, and so far I've read a fair few! Finally, a new Jodi Picoult book for me to endeavour. I enjoy Jodi Picoult, although after watching the film My Sisters Keeper, I don't think I could stomach that book, it's way too sad. However, I do like her books with a slight chilling twist to them and Songs of the Humpback Whale sounds just like my cup of tea! So again, another three books for £1!

I think I'm definitely going to start incorporating a lot more book type posts into my blog, so keep your eyes peeled for book reviews, favourite authors and a look into all the books on my shelf!

Lifestyle | What I Got For Christmas

This post isn't a post about me bragging about what I received for Christmas, because to be honest, I found the generosity of my family, boyfriend and friends slightly overwhelming! No, I am writing this post because I enjoy reading others posts on what they received for Christmas or even birthdays, and I know I'm not the only one!

I received lots of lovely girly bits and pieces for my room. It's currently in the process of having new licks of paint on it and a few new bits of furniture, but I take so much pride in how my room looks and I'm always looking for more bits and pieces to make it look even more beautiful. The Katie Piper books were one of my favourites, I love Katie, and she truly is my inspiration. I think I may do posts on these especially the Start Your Day With Katie, I'm gaining my own positivity from her little quotes each day. And I've fallen head over heels for my onesie. It's from Next, and so incredibly soft, Mum couldn't resist getting it for me!

 

Again, I was a lucky girl and got the Kindle Paperwhite. I'd had the original kindle for just over a year before the screen broke, and I'm lucky enough to get a new one this Christmas, and I can't believe just how much better the Paperwhite is to the original. It means no more reading in bed and falling asleep with the light on! And of course, no Christmas is complete without lots of bath smellies!

 

The Soap and Glory Yule Tide Monty set was a favourite this year, I now have even more to add to my collection! Somehow Mum always manages to source pretty undies sets for Christmas which I love to bits. But it's always a bit awkward opening up a set of silk lacy underwear in front of your boyfriend and then the rest of your family, I think they knew what he was thinking just from the look on his face! The above picture are the presents which my gorgeous boyfriend spoiled me with. He has truly been incredible this year and I can't believe how lucky I was. The ring also came as a bit of a surprise as I had given many hints to which he said there was no way I was getting it on this earth. So after everyone had opened their presents he then finally presented me with it. There was a slight heart stopping moment where I did think he was going to propose, and so did the rest of my family! Haha.

Sadly, it's really hard to get a good picture of just how beautiful the ring is, it's silver with a diamond set in gold, and I absolutely love it and haven't stopped wearing it since!

Even now, reminiscing over Christmas I'm almost having to stop myself from welling up! Christmas 2013 has just been breathtaking. I spent the day with all my loved ones including my family, and Tyler's family. I ate tonnes of incredible food, although I didn't get merry due to being a responsible driver! Now more than ever so, I am incredibly grateful and in love with all the wonderful people in my life!

#75 Before I Go To Sleep Book Review

I love sharing with all of you what I am currently reading as you'll know I'm such a book worm. I have a massive stash of books in my room which are still unread and earlier this year I purchased the Amazon Kindle and also have tonnes of books on it, I guess you can say I'm a book hoarder, I just love them!!!

I've recently just finished reading SJ Watson's Before I Go To Sleep which has been a well talked about book over this past year, and I just had to see for myself if it was a good as everyones talking about, and I have come to the conclusion that it is!

The plot goes a little like this: A woman, known as Christine suffers from Amnesia from an accident which she was involved in. Everyday she wakes up with no memory of who she is now, she can remember a little from before the accident but not much. During the book Christine becomes determined to be able to remember who she is each day and what really happened in the accident with help from her Doctor after not being able to trust her husband. ( SPOILER ALERT: and believe me she has good reasons not to!) As she begins to write a journal to help her remember each day the truth eventually comes out about the accident and who she really is!

This book is talked up to be a big psychological thriller, but if I'm honest I didn't really find it to be that at all. I was hooked at the beginning as it was so confusing and I wanted to find out more as Christine began to find out more. But then half way through the book I really struggled to carry on reading as it became very samey, but I guess you're thinking well what do you expect when she can't remember anything each day? But all I can say is that the ending was amazing and it had me completely hooked to my Kindle, I just couldn't put it down! I don't want to describe the ending at all as it will completely ruin it for you if you're planning to read it or haven't finished it yet, but it had me gripped!

I guess if you're comparing this book to 50 First Dates then I guess yes, it is far more of a thriller, but I was expecting to be at least a tiny bit fearful for the characters. However, if you are currently reading it and going through that unmotivated phase to finish reading it, I advise you to keep going! It will all be worth it in the end!

I also hear that there is talk of a film being made on the book, if so, I hope it does it justice!

#47 The New Love Of My Life... The Amazon Kindle!

If you're a religious reader of Beautiful Nellies you will know that I am such a book worm and constantly have my head in a good book. When the Amazon Kindle came out I was dead set against it, because nothing beats looking in book stores for a new book and reading the blurbs to find out what they're all about (I know I'm really sad!) I was also against the Kindle because I generally enjoy the satisfaction of holding a book in your hands and as you carry on reading and turing the pages you can see how close to the end you are! - Yes, I think that I have discovered that I am actually very sad. So those were my reasons for being against the Amazon Kindle - it just doesn't classify as reading a book.
But then over Christmas something happened which I didn't think ever would, I was talking to someone about the Kindle and became very curious. They themselves were a dedicated book fan until someone brought them the Kindle for Christmas and they told me they haven't looked back since! I became curiouser and curiouser! The books I checked out are actually sometimes a lot cheaper! And it was also solve the awkward in bed reading position, as I always suffer from arm ache when trying to read before going to sleep, and the Kindle is a lot lighter than a book so a comfortable position would be easily achieveable! So after looking into it all, curiosity got the better of me and I clicked that last 'confirm purchase' and brought my Kindle. I decicded if I didn't like it there would always be someone else who would buy it from me.
A few days later this came poking through my letterbox, and I just fell in love! (WARNING: PICTURE HEAVY)

The Kindle is such a sleek looking device, I just want to take it everywhere with me and show it off! As soon as I opened it I set it up following the instruction booklet, which gave really clear, simple instructions making it easy for even blondes like me! As soon as the Kindle had life in it, I went on to Amazon and brought some books, again that process is really simple - it doesn't have instructions on how to download the books but from the webiste it is pretty self explanatory. The kindle also works really well if you have wifi as you are able to get onto the Amazon website and download the books straight onto your Kindle. The actual Kindle function is also really simple with just a few buttons to navigate your way through the homescreen to the books.

The buttons at the bottom of the Kindle help my navigate your way through it, getting onto the home screen and flicking through books. It also has a button which produces a kepboard when browsing on the internet. The text font can also be changed and the size can be increased. I even have a comfortable lying down position when I'm reading. Another reason why I liked books more was because you could see how close the end you were, but with the Kindle it gives you a percentage, which I guess isn't actually that bad. But the biggest bonus for me has to be the fact that it just slips into my handbag and doesnt weigh very much at all, meaning I can ALWAYS take it with me where ever I go.

I just want to share another little idea of mine... As i did collect books massivly, I have no need for them and still have loads unread.
